The De La Salle University Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center, in cooperation with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research External Relations and Internationalization Office, College of Liberal Arts, and The Literature Circle, invites you to “Poems on the Edge: Some Thoughts about Contemporary Australian Poetics,” a craft lecture and reading by Dr. Stuart Cooke. This will be on 28 March 2012 (Wednesday), 1:00 pm -2:30 pm, Yuchengco Seminar Rooms 508-509, at the De La Salle University, 2401 Taft Avenue, Malate, Manila.
Poet and scholar Dr. Stuart Cooke is in residence for three months at De La Salle University-Manila. He received his PhD (Postcolonial Poetics) from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia in 2011. His dissertation, Speaking the Earth’s Languages: a theory for a trans-Pacific indigenous poetics, focused on Indigenous Australian and Chilean poetics. His poems and translations have seen publication in Australia, USA, and UK. His work includes a chapbook, Corrosions (Vagabond Press, 2010), and a translation of Juan Garrido Salgado’s Eleven Poems, September 1973 (Picaro Press, 2007). His full-length book of poems, Edge Music, was highly commended in the Interactive Press Picks First Book category.
